Abstract
최근 노인의 고독사와 노인 단독가구가 증가하고 있는 시점에서 본 연구는 노인의 사회적 고립이 자살생각에 영향을 미치는지와 그 과정에서 사회참여활동이 매개역할을 하는지를 검증하였다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 2011년 7월~8월간 전국13개 시도에서 65세 이상을 대상으로 900부의 설문지를 배포하여 그 중 830부를 대상으로 연구하였다. 연구분석을 위해서 SPSS 18.0과 AMOS 18.0 프로그램을 사용했으며 분석방법으로는 t-test, ANOVA, 구조방정식분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과를 보면 첫째, 인구사회학적 특성에 따라 자살생각에 집단 간 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 학력이 높은 노인, 배우자가 있는 노인, 배우자만족도가 높은 노인, 본인의 집에서 사는 노인, 주관적 경제상태가 높은 노인, 만성질환이 없는 노인 그리고 기초생활수급자가 아닌 노인집단에서 자살생각이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사회적 고립감이 높아질수록 노인의 자살생각이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회적 고립감은 사회참여활동을 통해서 노인의 자살생각을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 사회참여활동이 사회적 고립감과 노인의 자살생각 간에 간접 효과가 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 연구결과에 근거하여 노인들의 자살예방을 위한 정책적, 실천적 제언을 하였다.
Suicidal ideation is a common characteristic among the elderly these days. This study examined to test the role of social activity as mediators in the social isolation and suicidal ideation among elderly. Subjects in this study consisted of 830 elderly who aged 65 years and over in Korea except in Jeju. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires. The statistical significance was tested by SPSS 18.0, AMOS 18.0. The findings of the study were as follows: First, education level, partner satisfaction level, surviving spouse, health status, economic level were significantly associated with subjective suicidal ideation. Second, social isolation of the elderly did show the direct relationship to Suicidal ideation. Third, social activity worked as mediators between social isolation and suicidal ideation. The implications and limitations of these findings were discussed, and directions for future studies were also proposed.
