Abstract

Conjoined twins are very rare congenital malformation in which twins have varying
degree of anatomical union. They are reported to occur by the incidence of 1/50,000 to
1/100,000 in deliveries and in approximately 1/600 twin births. The conjoined twins are
usually associated with anomalies of internal organs, most commonly cardiovascular
anomaly leading to immediate postnatal death.
A case of conjoined twins(cephalothoracopagus syncephalus) was deliverer by
Caesarian section from a 23-year-old Primiparous woman at OB and GY dept., Veterans
Hospital. Gestational period was 30 weeks and both twins died soon after birth. The
autopsy was performed and a review of literature on conjoined twins were discussed
briefly.
