Abstract

A teratoma is a true tumor which is composed of a variety of cell types representative of more than one germ layer. These neoplasms are principally encountered in the ovaries and testes.
Rarely teratoma arises in the midline of the body such as anterior mediastinum, retroperitoneum, sacrococcygeal region, intracranial cavity, neck, and abdominal viscera, presumably from primitive sequestrated cell nests during embryogenesis.

The teratoma is mostly benign in histology and biology, however, rarely cancer develops in preexisting benign cystic teratoma.

The prostatic gland is an unusual site of the teratoma and so we report a case of teratoma which arose in the prostatic gland and underwent malignant change.
