Abstract

In vivo detection of malignant or premalignant bladder uroepithelium has become increasingly important. We have performed methylene blue staining on patients with the bladder tumor or suspicious bladder tumor by cystoscopic examination, who were admitted to the Department of Urology in Jeonbug National University Hospital during 8 months ranged from December, 1983 to July, 1984. A staining test with 0.2 per cent methylene blue was applied to 17 patients with bladder tumor or suspicious bladder tumor. Although normal bladder mucosa did not pick up the methylene blue. but injured bladder mucosa by bladder tumor or chronic inflammation did so frequently. The histologic anaplasia of tumor may be assessed by cystoscopic examination according to the intensity of the stain. To know of detailed histologic anaplasia and to differentiate nonpapillary earlycancer need additional histopathologic examination.
