Abstract

The urodynamic studies of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia has been useful in evaluating the degree of obstruction, the results of therapy and postprostatectomy syndromes. The urodynamic studies were performed in 30 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia admitted to the Department of Urology, Kyung Hee University Hospital during the period from January, 1983 to July, 1984 The following results were obtained: 1. In 14 cases performed uroflowmetry, the maximal flow rate (7.1 (4.5 ml /sec) and the mean flow rate (2.6 ( 1.5 ml/sec) were very lower than normal 2. The cystometry and the anal sphincter electromyography were done in 29 cases. The results we- re as follows: The detrusor hyperreflexia in 12 cases, the detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia in 7 cases and normal in 10 cases were found. 3. In 29 cases performed the urethral pressure profilometry, the functional urethral length 15.4 ( 1.18 cm) and the prostatic length (4.38 (1.07 cm) were longer than normal but the maximal urethral closure pressure (62.3 (23.9 cm H2O) was similar to normal. 4. There was correlation statically between the prostatic length and the weight of removed adenoma in the group performed transurethral prostatectomy (r=0.49, p<0.05).
