Abstract
The advent of visual internal urethrotomy has brought a turning point in the management of urethral stricture. During a 18-month period, from July, 1984 to December, 1985, 32 patients with urethral stricture were treated by visual internal urethrotomy.
We report on 20 cases that we could follow-up more than 3 months. Satisfactory results were achieved in 75 per cent of the cases. The surgical morbidity rate was 5 per cent Analysis of results compared to location and length of stricture and period of catheter indwelling is described. Patients with stricture in bulbous urethra and/or less than 2 cm. long had better results, while those with stricture in bulbomembranous urethra and/or more than 2 cm. long had not good results.
Visual internal urethrotomy is a simple, safe and effective technique that should be considered as a primary procedure in the management of urethral stricture.
