Abstract

We experienced total 530 patients with esophageal cancer and 118 patients with double primary cancers between 1975 and 1991. In these patients, 8 cases were primary esophageal squamous cell carcinoma associated with primary gastric
adenocarcinoma.
Ten of the 530 patents(1.9%) were associated with other primary malignancy and 8 of the these ten patents were associated with gastric cancer. We analyzed these eight patients. Among the 8 patients, six cases were synchronous and the gastric
lesions
were diagnosed in operation field in five cases. in esophageal cancer, most commonly involved site was mid-esophagus and in gastric cancer, gastric body especially lesser curvature, Seven of the 8 patients were male. Blood type of four cases were
A.
Only one patient(case 4) had early gastric cancer and the others, advanced gastric cancers.
After 1st cancer was diagnosed, average survival time was 11.9 months in synchronous, 41.5 months in metachronous type.
According to our experience, we emphasize the importance of careful preoperative & intraoperative gastric examination in patents with esophageal caner, especially for the possibility of presence of gastric ca.
