Abstract

DIC is usually associated with acute promyelocytic leukemia in malignant tumors but other type of malignancy such as gastric adenocarcinoma can cause DIC. DIC associated with gastric adenocarcinoma may be developed from activating coagulation
system due
to procoagulant like substances such as mucin extracts from tumor cell. But there is another hypothesis that DIC results from direct counteraction with peripheral intraluminal tumor emboli causing injury of RBC, platelet and production of
procoagulant
in conjunction with mechanical damage.
In Korea, gastric adenocarcinoma is the most common malignant tumor in both sexes but DIC associated with gastric adenocarcinoma was not yet reported.
We report two cases of DIC associated with gastric adenocarcinoma with was managed simmultaneously by chemotherapic regiment of "Georgetown FAM with low dose leucovorin " and supportive treatment such as plateletpheresis, heparinization and
administration of fresh frozen plasma.
