Abstract


We reviewed retrospectively thirteen cases of Paget's disease of the breast which managed surgically in Gospel Hospital. Kosin Medical College from January 1980 to December 1989,
The incidence of Paget's disease of the breast was 2.4%(13/548) of all breast cancers treated surgically during the period. The age distribution was from 31 years old to 74 years old. They were classified in 3 groups clinically; nipple changes
only(3
cases), nipple changes with underlying palpable mass(7 cases) and palpable mass only(3 cases).
The duration of clinical manifestions varied from 20 days to 7 years; average 39 months and median 15 months. Axillary node metastasis was observed in 8 cases of 10 patients who had palpable masse and there was no axillay metastasis in the
patient
with
nipple changes only. Modified radical mastectomy was carried out in 9 cases, simple mastectomy was performed in 1 case and 3 cases were treated with palliative mastectomy.
