Abstract
Relationship between epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)-estrogen receptor(ER) status and various prognostic factors was investigated in 85 human breast cancer tissues. EGFR was measured by immunohistochemical method(LSAB). EGFR was positive
in
36(42.4%) and estrogen in 54(63.5%). A significant inverse relationship of the status between EGFR and ER was demonstrated by the pathological stage and histologic grade. In the cases of ER positive and EGFR negative, the proportion of stage¥°,
¥±and
histologic grade¥°, ¥±was high, and in the cases of ER negative and EGFR positive, the proportion of stage¥²and histologic grade¥²was high. The more the positive grade of EGFR was increased, the more the proportion of ER value and histologic
grade¥°was
decreased. These data suggest that EGFR and ER status may be important prognostic factors of breast cancer, especially in EGFR as an indicator of high malignant potential.
