Abstract


The phenomenon of multiple primary malignant tumor in one patient synchronously or metachronously is no more curiosity. So, carefull follow-up study and early diagnosis of those lesions, base on an awareness of the possiblity of second cancer,
will
subsstantially increase the survival of these patients.
The study has made a clinical analysis of 28 cases of multiple primary malignant tumor treated in the department of surgery. Pusan Gospel Hospital during the past 18 years from 1973 through 1990. All cases confirmed pathologically.
@ES 1) The following result were obtained.
@EN The male to female ratio was 16 : 12 with average age of 49.8 years.
2) The ratio between synchronous and metachronous(interval more than 6 months)is 16 : 12. The time interval between first and second cancer average 49.8 months in metachronous cases.
3) There was no familial tendency in all 28 cases.
4) The primary cancer site was colon in 4 cases, rectum in 4 cases, uterine cervix in 3 cases, breast in 2 cases, pancreas in 2 cases, and others were thyroid, duodenum, liver, head and neck, ovary, retroperitoneum, gall bladder, and skin.
5) In 12 cases of metachronous cancers, adjuvant therapy was performed in 9 cases after first operation includng 6 cases of chemotherapy and 3 cases of radiotherapy.
