Abstract

The bacterial contamination rate of contact lens cases in contact lens care system of 64 asymptomatic contact lens wearers was investigated and a comparison was made between the case caps and the case wells.
The total contamination rate of all the case samples was found to be 84%(54/64). Eighty-one percent of the cap samples (52/54) and 84% of the well samplew(54/64) were found to be contaminated.
Of the samples that were contaminated, 96%(52/64) were found to be contaminated in both the cap and the well and 15% were positive for the Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain of bacteria.
There were no differences in contamination rate between hydrogen peroxide and non-gydrogen peroxide, also chemical and heat.
