Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to verify wether or not the ratio of amplitude difference between Right and Left hemisphere has a diagnostic value in children with cerebral palsy.

Methods: Thirteen children with cerebral palsy who received treatment at the pediatric rehabilitation clinic of Gachon Medical College of Gil hospital from July 2005 to October 2005 were selected as the subject of this study. 1) The frequency of CT, MRI or EEG prescribed according to their clinical manifestation were revised by their medical record. 2) They were categorized based on the Greenburg classification after median nerve somatosensory evoked potention (MSEP) test. 3) It was verified whether or not the ratio of Rt. & Lt. amplitude of MSEP of CP patient is statistically significant in comparison with that of the normal group.

Results: 1) 80.8% of children with cerebral palsy showed abnormal observation based on the latency in MSEP test. 2) 91.6% of children with cerebral palsy showed significant right to left amplitude difference from that of the children in the normal group. (t= 5.401, p<0.01)

Conclusion: In child ren with cerebral palsy, the ratio of left and right amplitude in median nerve somatosensory evoked potential displayed significant difference when compared to that of the normal group.
