Purpose : This study identifies the degree of emotional labor of optician working in a hospital and measures the level of each factor.

Methods : 102 opticians working in a hospital across the country were surveyed on structured online questionnaire and the causes of emotional labor were surveyed by caregivers, patients, and colleagues (doctors, nurses and assistant nurse, hospital working korea opticians). The data collected were analyzed at a significant level of 0.050 using SPSS 18.0.

Results : The emotional labor hours of opticians working in a hospital was 29.03 from 30 to 40 hours, 29.59 from 41 to 50 hours, and 36.00 from 51 to 60 hours. In a small group of 2~5, the emotional labor hours was 30.91, in a medium-sized group of 6~15 was 30.84 and a group larger than 16 was 27.32. It turned out that full-time workers perform higher emotional labor hours of 30.69 and 25.64 for contract and non regular(part time).

Conclusion : The emotional labor of opticians working in a hospital was at the highest level in relation to patients and caregivers. There is also a need for further research on the number of changes in emotional labor by various variables (such as job stress, exhaustion, job satisfaction, turnover intention, etc.) and ways to reduce the emotional labor of the optician working at the hospital.
