Purpose : To investigate the correlation between pupil size, pupil center shift, pupil center offset and high-order aberration (HOA) after refractive correction with contact lenses in myopes.

Methods : Thirty-three healthy adults (mean age: 23.0¡¾2.9 years, mean equivalent spherical power: -3.28¡¾1.67 D, 66 eyes) with no history of ocular surgery, and systemic disease were enrolled. The pupil sizes, pupil center shift, pupil center offset and HOA were measured three times under a scotopic (0.006 lx) condition adjusted by the instrument using a Wavefront Analyzer and the mean value was used.
Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS (Ver. 20.0).

Results : After refractive correction with contact lenses, the pupil sizes were significantly decreased to 6.72¡¾0.65 mm (p<0.001), pupil center shift was 0.17¡¾0.13 mm and pupil center offset was increased to 0.36¡¾0.18 mm (p=0.005). After refractive correction with contact lenses, the directions of pupil center offset were not different compared to naked eye and superotemporally, inferotemporally, superonasally, inferonasally offset from pupil center were 46%, 36%, 9% and 9% respectively. Total HOAs and spherical aberration (SA) were significantly decreased (p=0.036, p<0.001) after wearing contact lens, and coma aberration (CA) was not significantly different. SA was correlated with pupil size (r=0.398), CA was correlated with pupil center offset (r=0.340).

Conclusion : The pupil offset was increased after refractive correction with soft spherical contact lenses, however total HOAs and SA were decreased and CA did not change that the pupil center offset induced by contact lens wearing would not affect the visual quality.
